H.E. Dr. Elham Ibrahim
Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy,
Dr. Elham has a Ph.D. in Electronics and Communications from Cairo University, an M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from Cairo University, and a B.Sc. in Communication Engineering from Asuit University, Egypt. Over 33 years, Dr. Ibrahim has served in the academic research, electrical energy production & interconnection, energy strategies and policies, international cooperation, technical agreements and protocols, energy planning studies, computer aided design and management of energy projects, renewable energy including hydropower.
In 28 April 2008 she was elected and appointed for the post of The Commissioner of Infrastructure & Energy, in the African Union Commission. In July 2012 she was reelected for the same post. Her portfolio as AU Commissioner covers multiple sectors, She is responsible to lead the Infrastructure and Energy Department to realize its mandate to enhance Regional and Continental efforts for accelerated integrated infrastructure development and effective sustainable development of energy resources, and to carry out its core functions for:
- - Harmonization of sector policies and strategies for the different sectors of infrastructure (transport, energy, ICT, and tourism);
- - Development and interconnection of infrastructure networks;
- - Monitoring and facilitation of implementation of policies, strategies, integration- related to continental and regional infrastructure projects;
- - Contribution to mobilization of resources for infrastructure development.
